Chestnut Hill College, more popularly referred to as simply Chestnut Hill, is an inclusive coeducational Roman Catholic College, located in the Chestnut Hill area of Philadelphia, which is the largest city in the US state of Pennsylvania, as well as the 6th most populous one in USA, having a population estimated at a number of approximately 1.5 million inhabitants, during the 2008 census. Philadelphia is also the county seat of Philadelphia County and the nation's 4th largest urban area by population, including its 4th largest consumer media market, as ranked by the Nielsen Media Research.
Chestnut Hill College was officially established in 1924, and throughout its history, has aimed to offer a liberal arts education, focusing on humanities, and social and natural sciences. First founded as Mount Saint Joseph College, by the Sisters of St. Joseph, Chestnut Hill adopted its current name in 1938.
The college currently offers its students a broad list of academic choices, including associate, bachelor's and master's degree programs, in areas of study such as biology, French, criminal justice, music, education, sociology and many other.
Chestnut Hill College's athletic teams are known as the Griffins, which compete in NCAA Division II, in CACC, in 13 varsity intercollegiate sports, for both men and women.
